Art vs artist, comparing the years of growth.

There is a popular meme for artists out there called “art vs artist”. It's a block of 9 squares, featuring the artist selfie in one of the blocks. The other 8 are filled with the best art they've made that year.

It's an absolute snapshot in time at what the artist was up to over the year. Sometimes I forget what I did in the first quarter, sometimes time just melts away and I'm surprised at what I’ve accomplished by the end of it.

Here is this year's, Art vs Artist 2023.

IT’S BEEN MY BEST YEAR AS AN ILLUSTRATOR. A couple professional jobs, my biggest paychecks I've seen as an artist, the most networking I’ve managed to accomplish. I'm SO proud of myself and where I went this year. My selfie is bolder, because I feel confident.

I looked at my older “art vs artist” compilations over the last few years. Last year was such a growth year for me.

This is my Art vs Artist 2022.

Look at my choice selfie pic. I was feeling introspective and closed off from the world. My art that year reflects that. I only had a couple major pieces I made that year. I did a lot of doodles, experimenting with block printing, learning some harsh life lessons which left me depleted for energy to do more. And the art I feel, reflects the lack of energy I had that year.

Drew a LOT of humans that year. I was branching off from Transformers at that time, needing change, needing expansion. So proud of the growth I made with illustrating humans and selling paintings in an art fair.

My selfie was colored, I felt I worked with enough black and white that year to warrant a colored selfie.

I LOVE to look back at where I’ve come from. I remember when I thought my dreams were too hard to achieve. Steady solid growth towards my goals, have brought me this far and I’m still going. I feel more empowered to keep going, when I am reminded of how far I've come. I'm continually surprising myself and surpassing what I thought possible for my abilities.
