Expanding digitally for 2025

Feeling confident enough to start posting and sharing my digital art for 2025 and will be adding digital sketches to my commissions list. They will be cheaper than my traditional commissions, as there will be no use of traditional mediums.

I will still be offering traditional paintings and commissions!!! I am just expanding to add digital to my offerings as a freelance illustrator.

Gonna clean up this WIP and share it soon on social media. I'm still really new at it, but I can definitely draw some fun sketches ANNNND

Do a little more comics this year. I feel like I will be able to knock out more mini comics via digital art than I could traditionally. Inking straight lines with a ruler is very stressful for me. Digital programs remove the stress of making comic boxes. I just illustrate what goes in the boxes.

The massive change in the economy pushed me towards digital last month. A couple of my repeat commissioners were horrifically laid off during the month of December/right before Christmas. They had to cancel their commissions or reduce it, so they could keep a roof over their heads! (And around the same time, Elon became the first trillionaire) . The news keeps talking about more North American lay offs, and future higher grocery costs. It was obvious that the way I have been running my business needed to change. I need to offer much cheaper alternatives if I am to stand a chance. If there is no extra money for people to buy art with, then the artists have to find something else to make rent.

Canada Post went on strike, so I couldn't offer anything to be mailed out. People want physical art for Christmas, I lost out huge there with nothing alternative to offer.

Lastly, I have always replaced my marker supplies in January. I start price shopping in December to get an idea of what I want. Well 2024 officially made it too expensive to continue on traditionally like I have been doing. The cost of the markers and the paper I use has gone up. I then checked for other brands, and their prices have increased as well. Why would I buy a knock off brand of markers that is now priced at the same price point as my beloved Copics USED TO BE. That's too much money for the knock off brand that I don't even like much.

So I dragged out a tablet I've had for a few years, and have been practising on it through the holidays. Now I'm going to do the majority of my sketches digitally, in an effort to save ink and paper. Those supplies are now reserved solely for traditional commissions.
